IT Engineer - Virtual desktop infrastructure

We are looking for IT Engineers to elevate our Application Operation team and help us deliver cutting-edge technology and shape the digital future for Oil and Gas, Renewables and Ocean Industries. This role involves ensuring the availability, performance, and security of virtual infrastructure, while contributing proactively to process and system improvements.

 

The role will be part of our shift coverage, with normal working time being 5AM –13PM. 

  

Work tasks and responsibilities: 

  • Virtualization Management: 

Manage virtual environments using VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms. 

Optimize and troubleshoot virtual infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance. 

Manage virtual machine (VM) lifecycle, including provisioning, cloning, snapshot management, and decommissioning. 

  

 
 
  • System Administration

Perform regular system maintenance, including updates, patches, and backups. 

Ensure the security of virtual and storage environments by implementing best practices and security policies. 

Maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures. 

  

  • Technical 3rd Line Support: 

Provide technical support and troubleshooting for virtualization and storage systems. 

Work with internal teams and vendors to resolve issues and implement solutions. 

Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and implement preventive measures. 

  

  • Performance Optimization: 

Monitor and analyze system performance, implementing optimizations to enhance efficiency. 

Develop and maintain capacity planning strategies to anticipate and meet future demands. 

Utilize performance metrics and reporting tools to maintain optimal system operations.

Virtualization & Cloud Infrastructure 

  • Proven experience with VMware Horizon and Citrix (On-Prem & Cloud), including VM provisioning, configuration, performance tuning, and lifecycle management. 

  

System Administration 

  • Experience  with Windows Server administration, including installation, configuration, patch management, and security hardening. 

  

Technical Support & Documentation 

  • Ability to provide Tier 2/3 support for virtualization and storage platforms, including root cause analysis and preventive maintenance. 

  • Experience creating end-user training materials and maintaining technical documentation. 

  

Performance & Capacity Optimization 

  • Skilled in system performance tuning and capacity planning using monitoring tools and performance metrics. 

  • Experience automating tasks and workflows using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python)  

  

Project Experience (Preferred

  • VMware vSphere upgrade and maintenance. 

  • Large-scale Nasuni deployment with global access and replication. 

  • Isilon cluster expansion with zero-downtime data migration 

  

Formal requirements:  

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience within Azure, Citrix and VMware 

  • Bachelor’s degree within IT. Extensive competence may compensate for formal education. 

  • Relevant certifications (Azure 900 expected, more advanced certifications beneficial) 

  • Fully fluent in English, both written and oral. Fluency in Malaysian beneficial. 

  • Valid visa with the right to work in Malaysia
